#004 T-style

This is a fresh take on a classic design, with a few unique twists. Built entirely from Australian woods, it features a ’69 Thinline Tele pickguard, two P-90s, and a bridge single-coil layout.

The body is crafted from two pieces of silver quandong from Queensland – a lightweight hardwood with a cream-toned hue, with hints of grey. In terms of workability, it shares similarities with mahogany, making it a joy to work with.

I stained it transparent amber as a nod to the ultimate guitar – the blackguard tele. It creates beautiful contrast with the black pickguard. The body is finished with a very thin layer of a semi-satin wipe-on poly.

The neck is made of northern silky oak, paired with a river oak fretboard. A two-way truss rod and two carbon fibre rods reinforce the neck.

The neck features mother-of-pearl side dots, keeping the fretboard marker-free for a clean look. It’s fitted with vintage-size fretwire and a bone nut, and sealed with a wipe-on poly finish for a natural feel.

The bridge is GOTOH in-tune vintage style with string-through-body construction. The tuners are GOTOH top-locking with adjustable post height.

I built the two P-90s with A2 magnets, winding them for a bright yet full sound. The bridge pickup was later swapped for a mini humbucker, better complementing the P-90s. The humbucker also features an A2 magnet and was wound on the brighter side. A Free-Way 3×3 blade switch provides six versatile pickup combinations – no need for push-pull pots or extra toggles.

I’m thrilled with how this guitar came together – it plays beautifully and sounds fantastic. There are some visual imperfections, which means this one I get to keep!
